Adding atom labels


Click to Start
  • Select the text tool from the tools palette
  • With the text tool selected, move to the end of an existing bond
  • When you are pointing to the end of the bond, a black square will appear. Also, the cursor will change to show that you are adding text, and not adding a new bond
  • Press and release the mouse button without moving the mouse
  • A text editing box will appear
  • Type your new atom label, starting with the atom that is attached to the bond. As you type, numbers will be subscripted, as is proper for chemical symbols
  • When you are done entering the text, press Return or Enter. This will close the text editing box

 

Adding atom labels to the left side of bonds


Click to Start
  • Select the text tool from the tools palette
  • With the text tool selected, move to the left end of an existing bond
  • When you are pointing to the end of the bond, a black square will appear. Also, the cursor will change to show that you are adding text, and not adding a new bond
  • Press and release the mouse button without moving the mouse
  • A text editing box will appear
  • Type your new atom label, starting with the atom that is attached to the bond. As you type, numbers will be subscripted, as is proper for chemical symbols
  • When you are done entering the text, press Return or Enter. This will close the text editing box. The text will automatically be reversed so that it looks best. The first atom you typed will remain closest to the bond.
