Dr. Michael R. Stapleton
Dr. Stapleton brings more than 20 years experience in the field of scientific software and informatics to his role as General Manager at PerkinElmer Informatics. Most recently he served as Vice President, Corporate Development at CambridgeSoft Corporation. Prior to CambridgeSoft, he was Vice President of Global Marketing, Informatics and eBusiness at Life Technologies, where he was responsible for their industry-leading web, bioinformatics and eCommerce activities. Prior to Life Technologies, Dr. Stapleton spent 11 years at Accelrys. In 2001, as Chief Operating Officer, he was responsible for launching Accelrys as a result of the integration of Molecular Simulations, Synopsys, Oxford Molecular Group and Genetics Computer Group. Dr. Stapleton has a Ph.D. in chemistry and has undertaken research at Cornell University and British Petroleum.
Vice President, Global Sales
Prior to joining PerkinElmer, Rusty Irving served as the VP Global Sales at the CambridgeSoft Corporation, joining that organization in 2002 and building a sales organization that achieved $61MM in 2010. Previously, he worked at Accelrys for 9 years holding the position of Vice President, Global Accounts when he left in 2002. During his tenure at Accelrys, the company grew from $5MM to $96MM in sales. Prior to Accelrys, Mr. Irving worked in Sales and Product Management with Varian Instruments and Fisons Instruments North America (acquired by Thermo Scientific) and as a Research Chemist at the Gillette Company, General Electric Global Research, and IBM. Mr. Irving received an MS in Chemistry from Tufts University and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Boston College with a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy.
Vice President, Global Services
Devendra Deshmukh brings to PerkinElmer Informatics over 15 years of rich global experience building and running software development and services operations. Since 2008, at PerkinElmer Informatics (formerly, CambridgeSoft Corporation), Devendra has focused on delivering value to our largest customers by driving large, complex informatics engagements to successful outcomes. Prior to that, in the capacity of Director, Operations, Devendra worked with the founders of Sciformix Corporation, a venture funded life sciences knowledge process outsourcing company, to get its operations in India and the US off the ground and oversee early growth, and earlier, from 2000 through 2006, drove the restart and growth of Megaware, a life sciences consulting services organization, setting up, scaling and managing a software development and services delivery center for Megaware in Mumbai, India. Devendra has a Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Mumbai, India.
Vice President, Marketing
Clive Higgins is an accomplished informatics professional with over 25 years of experience in the Life Sciences and Informatics Fields. Prior to joining PerkinElmer from CambridgeSoft Corporation, Mr. Higgins had served as Director, Sales Operations at Beckman Coulter Genomics and General Manager, North America for Cogenics Inc. Previous to that, he held positions at Thermo Fisher Scientific (formerly Thermo Electron) as General Manager for Biobanking, Director of Marketing for Life and Laboratory Sciences and President of Thermo Lab Systems. His professional experience also includes undergraduate work placements at 3M, the UK Ministry of Defence and the Freshwater Biological Association and after graduating, he worked in the photographic laboratories of Ilford Ltd.
Mr. Higgins graduated in Applied Chemistry from Brunel University in London, UK and studied Strategic Marketing and Leadership in the 21st Century at Harvard Business School.
Vice President, Operations
With over 25 years of experience in the Life Sciences Industry, Nick Mitropoulos brings a strong portfolio of skills and experience to his role as Vice President, Operations for PerkinElmer Informatics. Mr. Mitropoulos initially joined PerkinElmer Informatics in the role of Senior Director, Sales Operations in 2012 after serving from 2009 - 2012 as the Chief Commercial Officer at Carestream Molecular Imaging where he was instrumental in driving over 20% growth per year. From 2007 - 2009 he was VP of the Americas Automation Business Unit at Caliper Life Sciences where he held responsibility for Sales, Marketing, Application Scientists, and Support. Prior to that Mr. Mitropoulos spent 17 years with Accelrys, Inc. in a variety of roles culminating in VP Global Sales. During that time he played a key role in growing the business from $1 Million to $96 Million annual sales. Mr. Mitropoulos has a BS and an MBA-Finance and Marketing from Babson College.
Vice President, R&D
Robin Smith brings 12 years experience as a visionary executive in the life science software market to his role as Vice President, R&D. In 2007, Mr. Smith founded ArtusLabs Inc., a software and services company with offices in Silicon Valley and Research Triangle Park. ArtusLabs was acquired in 2011 by PerkinElmer as a key component in the new PerkinElmer Informatics organization. Prior to ArtusLabs, Mr. Smith was the Founder and CTO/CSO of Synthematix, establishing them as a leader in the electronic lab notebook market and leading the organization through its acquisition by Symyx Technologies, where he participated as the executive responsible for technology and strategy. Mr. Smith’s earlier experiences include a 10-year career in synthetic chemistry, initially with the synthetic work acceleration team (SWAT) labs at Burroughs Wellcome & Co. (GlaxoSmithKline), material science synthesis experiences at Lord Corporation and biotech experiences at Boron Biologicals.
