TIBCO Software Inc. and PerkinElmer have entered into a strategic relationship to provide the next generation of scientific research and development applications to the marketplace.

PerkinElmer has licensed the exclusive, worldwide rights to the TIBCO Spotfire® software platform in certain scientific research and development markets. These markets include basic and preclinical development in life sciences; research and development in chemical, petrochemical, environmental, food and beverage, consumer products and academia; as well as quality assurance and quality control in manufacturing. PerkinElmer will execute all new license and maintenance agreements, and develop new software applications for use with the TIBCO Spotfire® platform, in these markets.

In addition, we have licensed the TIBCO Spotfire Lead Discovery® source code and we will be the sole source of future product enhancements to this product in these markets in the future.

We have done this because of a perfect fit with our portfolio and the tremendous strength of the TIBCO Spotfire brand. We will now provide enhanced, self-service “data in” and “data out” capabilities across all existing software and instrument platforms.

PerkinElmer sees many longer-term opportunities to apply the TIBCO Spotfire® event management capabilities to the R&D industry as well as tibbr®, TIBCO’s enterprise social networking software.

This strategic relationship with PerkinElmer will ensure that TIBCO Spotfire® customers in life science research will continue to have a TIBCO Spotfire® platform that is relevant to scientific data and analytics. Thanks to the investments of PerkinElmer in furthering TSLD software and developing other applications plus the PerkinElmer sales channel, this relationship will extend the reach of the Spotfire platform to organizations and institutions that have not been effectively reached.

With PerkinElmer investing in scientific R&D applications on the TIBCO Spotfire® platform for the research market, TIBCO will be able to focus its own investments on improving the main platform for everyone.

All customers in the relevant markets will renew their maintenance agreements upon the next renewal event directly with PerkinElmer (or one of its subsidiaries). The advantages to the customer of doing so are:

1. This will be the only way to get access to updates of the TSLD product that PerkinElmer releases.
2. PerkinElmer has a global support organization with scientific domain knowledge based at PerkinElmer Informatics Centers of Excellence in Boston and Shanghai.

Until maintenance renewal, the obligation for support resides with TIBCO.
